London, July 9: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna, Purav Raja won their respective matches in respective categories on Saturday and swiftly entered into the pre-quarter finals of Wimbledon 2017 which is being held in London, United Kingdom.
Notably, Sania Mirza and her Belgian partner Kirsten Flipkens registered a hard-fought win over Heather Watson and Naomi Broady by 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the women's doubles. While, Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski also advanced to the third round of the mixed doubles with a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win against Fabrice Martin and Raluca Olaru.
Sania Mirza also stormed into the third round of the mixed doubles with her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig after a 7-6(5), 6-2 win against the Japanese duo of Yusuke Watanuki and Makoto Ninomiya. On the other side, Purav Raja also advanced to the second round with his Japanese partner Eri Hozumi after coming back from a one-set deficit to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 against James Cerretani and Renata Voracova.
Sania, Flipkens won the first set 6-3 against the British pair but they came back strong in the second to level scores with a 6-3 win. It all came down to the decider and the Indo-Belgian pair, seeded 13th here, didn't waste chances and they entered the pre-quarterfinals winning the set 6-4.
Bopanna and Dabrowski, seeded 10th, didn't face any difficulty in halting the challenge posed by Fabrice Martin and Raluca Olaru. The Indo-Canadian duo beat the French-Romanian pair 7-6 (2), 7-5 to advance in the mixed doubles event. On the other side, in the juniors, Desai, who is seeded 15th, thrashed Naho Sato of Japan 6-1, 6-1.
