PM Modi arrives in Assam to take stock of flood situation; announced relief funds of Rs. 2 Lakh

Guwahati, August 1: Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Assam to take the stock of aftermath situation of the devastating floods. PM Modi announced relief funds for victims of the Assam and Rajasthan floods. PM Modi was received by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. 

While accessing the consequences of the floods, PM Modi announced Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives in the floods in Assam and Rajasthan. Relief of Rs. 50,000 each has been announced for those who have been seriously injured in the floods in Assam and Rajasthan, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.


Meanwhile, Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit contributed his one month salary to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in aid to the flood affected people. Also, the state ministers decided to contribute their one month’s salary for flood relief. At least 82 people have been killed and over 25 lakh population affected in 29 districts of the state in floods.

Prior to this Prime Minister Modi reviewed his home state, Gujarat floods, took an aerial survey and released the financial aid of Rs.500 Crores to those who were affected due to massive floods.

Assam floods recorded around 12 Lakh people in 24 districts of Assam continued to reel under floods and the death toll reached to 59. Also in Rajasthan, nearly 100 villages have turned into islands in worst-hit districts Jalore, Pali, Sirohi, Jaisalmer, Barmer.
