For 1st time Indian Army participates in Tank Biathlon with own T-90 tanks

Moscow, August 1: Since 2013 Russia is organizing international tank biathlon competition. The competition is a mechanized military sport developed by the Russian Military. The contest is a 15-day long one. A team from Indian Army has participated in in Tank Biathlon 2017 with T-90 tanks. Nineteen nations with three crews each are competing with each other in the Stage I. The participating Indian T-90 tanks belong to Jhansi Cantonment.

The competition started at Alabino Ranges on July 29. Top twelve teams will be selected for Stage II relay race out of which top four teams will qualify for the final stage relay race scheduled on 12 August 2017. This competition is a part of the International Army Games held every year since 2015. The game involves 28 events.

"This year, for the first time, the team would be participating with own T-90 tanks which have been shipped to Russia," the Army said. Since last 3 years, Indian Army team has been participating in the competition.

The team stood 6th in the previous year out of the 17 countries which participated in the event in July 2016. The competition simulates actual battle field conditions involving driving at high speed and entails switching from one mode of operation to another at a fast pace which requires mental mobility and exceptional level of physical fitness and training.
