Gandhinagar, Aug 10: Slamming apex leadership of the Congress party for the high voltage drama during Gujarat Rajya Sabha polls, senior leader and former Chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela alleged that Congress party have conspired to get the votes of two of its rebel legislators disqualified in Rajya Sabha poll.

Speaking to the media Vaghela stated that EC had no role in this, they should not have interfered when returning officer had the right to decide. He also revealed that as many as 36 Congress legislators were unhappy with the party leadership. “If the Congress had not taken its 44 MLAs to Bengaluru, more than 30 MLAs would have resigned,” he mentioned. Hitting hard at the office bearers of Gujarat Congress the senior leader underlined that the party did not take cross voting in President polls seriously.

Responding to the comments made by Congress leader Ashok Gehlot Vaghela asserted that he would have voted for Ahmed Patel if Gehlot had apologized for his sweeping comments. "Ashok Gehlot said I was acting under CBI pressure, I told him that I won't vote Ahmed Patel till he apologizes for this comment. I have no fear of CBI or any other agency," Vaghela said.

Narrating about his future plans Vaghela informed that he would resign as Congress MLA next week. He further noted that his loyalty to the party was questioned for several times which is indeed disgusting. The Gujarat Congress has expelled eight MLAs, including Vaghela and his son Mahendrasinh, for cross-voting in recently held RS polls.
