New Delhi, Aug 10: Calling India as the most tolerant country in the world, Vice-President elect M Venkaiah Naidu said that some people intentionally raising the minority issue just for the sake of vote bank politics which is not good for the social fabric. Muslims are more safe in India than any other country, Naidu added. He also rejected the notion that there is a sense of insecurity among minorities in the country.
The reaction came in the backdrop of recent comments made by Vice-President Hamid Ansari on the condition of minorities in the country. In his last interview, Vice-President Ansari said, “A sense of insecurity is creeping in as a result of the dominant mood created by some and the resultant intolerance and vigilantism.Speaking to the news agency PTI Naidu said, “India is the most tolerant country…Unfortunately, some people are trying to blow it out of proportion and trying to defame India, raising it to a national forum,”
Elaborating further Naidu asserted that various minority community members got prominent positions including constitutional responsibilities because there is no discrimination and time and again history has proved that there is no discrimination against minorities. Hitting out at the politics of appeasement the Vice-President elect said, “If you single out one community, other communities will take it otherwise. That is why we say all are equal.”
