Nay Pyi Taw, August 11: The world famous Burmese Politician and Nobel Peace award winner Aung San Suu Kyi again emphasized on Peace. She said Peace is the top priority of Myanmar. The first State Counselor of Myanmar thinks without peace development would never take place in the country.

She was giving a speech in ‘Forum on Myanmar’s Democratic Transition’ in Nay Pyi Taw. During the speech she said as Myanmar has suffered long from civil war peace can bring development.

The forum brings together more than 450 participants including special observers from foreign governments and global bodies who support Myanmar’s transition to democracy. Myanmar is now in a special phase and no ever transition was successful. In addition to that, Myanmar’s democracy is still a hybrid one.

The hurdles of a new democracy were also discussed. Renata Nicola Lok-Dessallien from the UN warned that “Many democratic processes lose their way. We get corrupt, illiberal and fake democracies.” U Thaung Tun, National Security Advisor agreed to this view saying “Many countries trying democracy failed. Many leaders in these countries morphed into dictators."
