Kolkata, August 17: As expectedly Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress (AITMC) has again acquired a great victory in the West Bengal Municipal polls. TMC Spokesperson Rajya Sabha MP, Derek O’Brien called it a ‘clean sweep.’ Another important aspect of this result is that BJP has finally pushed back left front to the third position by winning six seats.

Buniyadpur in South Dinajpur, Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri, Panskura and Haldia in East Midnapore and Nalhati in Birbhum are the municipalities which went for recent polls. In Haldia, TMC won 29 seats, in Panskura 17 seats, Durgapur 43 seats, Nalhati 14 seats. TMC has held it as “bigger win than 2012”.

The BJP won six seats in three municipalities which included four in Dhupguri in north Bengal and one each in Buniyadpur (north Bengal) and Panskura in south Bengal.

The major noticeable change is CPIM’s poor show in the result. The party could not even manage to win one seat like another opposition congress. Whereas a comparatively weaker ally of CPIM, Forward Block won one seat, people did not show any trust on CPIM. Whereas CPIM is showing steady decline, BJP is showing steady Improvement.
