GJM chief Bimal Gurung discharged in Madan Tamang murder case

Kolkata, August 18: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha can now take a sigh of relief as its President Bimal Gurung has been discharged from Madan Tamang murder case. GJM leaders are not in a very favorable situation. Amid the tension, this decision by the court may bring a temporary relief for them.

A city court in Calcutta though relieved Gurung, it has instructed to frame charge sheet against rest 47 alleges. It was alleged that the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) chief was involved in the conspiracy to murder the All India Gorkha League leader, one of his political opponents in the Darjeeling hills. The total 48 suspects in the case applied in Court for discharge.

Gurung’s discharge cannot give a full-fledged happiness for GJM as now charges will be framed against 27 top GJM leaders including Gurung’s wife Asha, Roshan Giri. Roshan Giri has said charges against them are politically motivated. They will prove themselves innocent.

Tamang was attacked with sharp weapons when he was overseeing preparations for a public meeting at Clubside in the heart of Darjeeling town on 21 May 2010 and was declared brought dead at the Sadar hospital there.
