Guwahati, August 2: An unusual kind of initiative to raise awareness regarding ‘Jackfruit’ and the entrepreneurial opportunities that lie; the 2nd Northeast Jackfruit Festival organized by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati and Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship (MIE), Shillong kicked off on Tuesday at IIE campus.
The primary aim of the Jackfruit festival is to make the potential farmers and entrepreneurs aware of entrepreneurial opportunities present in the Jackfruit which is found in abundance in North East Region, said an IIE official.
The festival includes Workshops, Seminars, Lectures and presentation by experts from the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bangalore and demonstration by leading entrepreneurs of Kerala and Bangalore who will showcase the various value added products that can be prepared from this humble and long ignored fruit.
The festival also includes exhibition cum sale of raw jackfruits and processed value-added products. Competitions in different areas such as biggest jackfruit display, lifting the biggest jackfruit and the best method of peeling jackfruit, fastest peeler of jackfruit etc., will also be held.
Ram Muivah, Secretary, NEC, Shillong inaugurated the festival in presence of Manoj K Das, Director, IIE; Dr B.D.R. Tiwari, Secretary, C& RD, Planning & Executive Director, MIE and other dignitaries, entrepreneurs and farmers from across Northeast.
