Chennai, August 21: After long political drama at Tamil Nadu, the two rival factions of AIADMK led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam have announced their merger in Chennai today. The party sources says that the former CM Panneer selvam to be deputy chief minister and three more of his MLAs will be inducted as ministers in present cabinet.
The coordination committee will expel Sasikala from the party and appoint O Panneerselvam as the general secretary. The striking part of the merger is that EPS has taken a backseat in the party, declaring OPS as the convenor of the party. EPS will be the co-convenor.
The CM has also set up an inquiry commission to probe the death of J Jayalalithaa and announced that her residence, would be converted into a memorial.
"We will get the party symbol back and will defeat the enemy. Jayalalithaa had said before that after me, the AIADMK will be there for 100 years. We all will make it sure," he added.
“I will work as a ordinary member. We have united bowing to the wishes of lakhs of AIADMK workers to turn Amma’s dreams into reality,” Panneerselvam says after merger announcement.
"We all are children of one mother, and Amma (Jayalalithaa) is that one mother," he added.
Earlier, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami has agreed to the demand of the O Panneerselvam faction to expel VK Sasikala from the party. Both the leaders have reached the AIADMK party head office to hold a joint press conference to announce the news.
