Russia claims significant progress in driving out ISIS militants from Syria, says 200 ISIS fighters killed

Moscow, August 22: Russia again has claimed that Moscow and Syrian government forces have made progress in the last month driving Islamic State (IS) militants from central Syria. On Monday, Russian Defense Ministry said Russian fighter jets killed more than 200 fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq in a recent air attack. As per the statement, the strikes also destroyed "heavy vehicles with ammunition."

"The Russian Air Force destroyed another large column of ISIS fighters that was heading to the area of the city of Deir ez-Zor, where international terrorists are trying to regroup and equip their last base in Syria," the statement says.

Russia has expressed happiness over the development in Syria. The progress has been described as "a dramatic shift" in the Syria conflict. To push out militants from Central Russia, the Syrian army is doing well with help from Moscow.

The Russian Defense Ministry has said that IS terrorists have suffered heavy losses in Raqqa and Homs provinces. Now their main aim is main aim is to destroy the last stronghold of the terrorists in the Deir al-Zor region.
