Glasgow, August 24: Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal, Kidambi Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth stormed into the pre-quarterfinals in singles events of the World Badminton Championships being which is being held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Notably, Saina Nehwal defeated Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland in straight games 21-11, 21-12 in a match that was played for only 33 minutes. It was the second victory for Saina against Sabrina. Earlier, Saina received a bye in the opening round, over Sabrina since the Indian had beaten her rival at the 2012 London Olympics as well.
Saina will next take on second seed Sung Ji Hyun, who defeated India's Tanvi Lad 21-9 21-19. Saina has a 7-2 head-to-head record against the Korean and most recently she beat her at the Australian Open in June. Meanwhile, Singapore Open champion B Sai Praneeth overcame Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in three games 14-21 21-18 21-19. In the pre-quarterfinal, Praneeth will take on either Germany's Marc Zwiebler or Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen on Thursday.
On the other side, Srikanth registered an easy win over France's Lucas Corvee 21-9 21-17. Srikanth's next opponent will be 14th seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark. Last night, women's doubles pair of Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram and the men's doubles pair of Arjun MR and Ramchandran Shlok bowed out of the championship after losing out. Ajay Jayaram was in his elements as he got the better of Mark Caljouw of Netherlands 21-13, 21-18 while Sameer Verma went down to England's Rajiv Ouseph 20-22, 9-21 in straight games.
