Cairo, August 24: Egypt in obvious predicted way reacted angrily to US decision to lower aid to Egypt. White House adviser Jared Kushner arrived in Cairo on Wednesday amid this situation but his top-level meetings with Egyptian officials had apparently been canceled. Egypt-US relation was going well after Trump came to power. The US took the decision citing a failure to achieve relevant progress in Egypt's human rights record and democratic norms.
On Tuesday US authority cut nearly $100 million in military and economic aid to Egypt and delayed almost $200 million. After Israel, Egypt is the second largest recipient of military aid from the United States.
Some analysts have called it as a counter decision to Egypt’s NGO law which restricted strictly functioning of foreign NGOs in the country. However, Egypt in a clear way did not take the step easily. It warned that the cuts may have “negative consequences for the realization of common U.S.-Egyptian interests.”
