Haryana, Punjab fortified sensing violence on the day of Ram Rahim Singh case verdict

Panchkula, August 24: Ahead of the court verdict of the case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Haryana and Punjab have been put on high alert. With the increase in the flow of crowd supporting Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the security arrangements are also being strengthened. To maintain law and order situation, the district administrations have imposed section in several cities in the state. The hopeful part of the story is, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Thursday said he would go to the court on August 25.

Dera Sacha Sauda which claims to be a spiritual organization in the country has hundreds of followers. Its main center is situated in Sirsa(Haryana). The alleged Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh became the third master of Dera Sacha Sauda in 1990.

The sexual exploitation case was registered against the Dera chief in 2002. He was accused of exploiting two female followers inside Dera campus. After a decade of proceedings, the judgment was reserved last week for pronouncement on August 25. Since 2007, the proceedings are going on. The allegation against him was first made in an anonymous letter.

Dera now has almost 4 crore followers with 50 ashrams in the country. Hence it is easily comprehensible what could happen if the verdict goes against this self-proclaimed godman. His followers are also tweeting under hashtag #isupportmsg.

To resist the protest from this huge amount of followers, the security has been put on high alert. As the tension is mounting, all schools, colleges, and Universities in Chandigarh and Panchkula districts of Haryana will remain closed today and tomorrow. Both Punjab and Haryana have asked the Army to be on standby. Chandigarh city police have sealed all entry points of the city till Friday evening. Centre has also assured of required help to the states.
