Riyadh, August 26: The Haj, which is a pillar of Islam that capable Muslims must perform at least once in a lifetime, is to take place this year at the beginning of September. Therefore, till now 1,531,861 pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia to offer prayers at Haj.
Notably, on Friday, the General Directorate of Passports released the data saying the 1,531,861 pilgrims have arrived till now in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to offer prayers at Haj. The General Directorate also said that 1,432,656 pilgrims arrived by air while 84,892 by land and 14,331 by sea.
The arrival of 1,531,861 pilgrims marked an increase of over 33% compared with the same period last year. The number of pilgrims from India reached 157,048 while 167,903 were the number of pilgrims that arrived from Pakistan. Indonesian pilgrims that arrived numbered at 280,207, the General Directorate added.
Meanwhile, Saudi security forces have paraded through Mecca ahead of Hajj, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other top officials among those watching. The military display took place late on Wednesday. Between two and three million Muslims are expected to travel to Mecca for this year's Hajj, which will take place at the beginning of next month. On the other side, Saudi Arabia has implemented massive projects to serve the Two Holy Mosques as the number of worshippers is increasing massively.
