Darjeeling, August 29: From sole issue to "one of the issues", Gorkhaland agitators are gradually losing ground for statehood. Over the time, the rift in leadership, the anger in the mind of sufferers has weakened the movement. Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s chief coordinator Binay Tamang said Gorkhaland would be “"one of the issues” to discuss in today’s meeting. It is in clear contrast with Bimal Gurung’s demand of Gorkhland as the sol;e agenda. Gurung already warned GJM leaders that no one would be spared if they discuss otherwise.
Tamang emphasized on the role of government to bring back peace in Darjeeling whereas Gurung once said he is the Chief Minister of the hill. Tamang clearly mentioned government’s role is very important to bring back peace in the hill area.
Gurung’s warning has created a question that if the discussion goes well Tamang and delegation may not return to hill due to a hostile situation. But government indicates to be with Tamang and other leaders and will assure their security.
"We have no hidden agenda. Everybody knows that a delegation of the Morcha is going to attend the talks following an invitation from the state. At this moment, we fail to understand what made Gurung make the comments," a pissed GJM leader said.
