Fortified security brings back normalcy in Haryana

Panchkula, August 29: After a period of tension normalcy returns to Haryana. Following the verdict which found Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s guilty in two rape cases, violence erupted in the state from the protest of his followers. Again a phase of violence was feared as Panchkula CBI Court pronounced the quantum of his punishment as 20 years of the sentence.Bringing good news for local people,  no untoward incident is reported so far.

Many areas of the state were under curfew since Thursday. In Sirsa city, the curfew has been relaxed from 7 am to 7 pm but the curfew will continue in the areas near Dera. In Punjab’s Patiala curfew has been lifted but 144 sections will prevail there.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar convened an emergency meeting of senior officials to take stock of the situation after the pronouncement of the quantum. “Effective arrangements have been made to maintain peace in the State following the decision of the court. Strict action will be taken against any person who violates the law,” he said.

To ensure law and order, the Army, paramilitary forces, and the Haryana Police conducted a flag march in Panchkula after the court verdict. The security was tightened in the total area from Monday morning. Panchkula Police Commissioner AS Chawla said that no incident of violence was reported from any part of the district. The entire district remained peaceful on Monday.
