Aukland, August 3: Indian shuttler HS Prannoy and Sourabh Verma continuing to shine in international sports arena advanced to the quarterfinals on Thursday after defeating their respective opponents of the New Zealand Open in Auckland.
In the pre-quarterfinals, top seed Prannoy registered a comprehensive victory over 10th placed Nan Wei of Hong Kong, 21-18, 21-19. Prannoy had lost to Wei at the Malaysia Open in 2014 but he avenged his loss today after dishing out a gritty performance.
While Former National champion and seventh seed Sourabh Verma also reached the quarters after emerging victorious in an all-Indian pre-quarterfinal battle against Parupalli Kashyap. He defeated Parupalli Kashyap by 21-18 13-21 21-16 in a match that lasted an hour and four minutes.
Another Indian shuttler Siril Verma bowed out after losing his Round-of-16 match against Chia Hung Lu of Chinese Taipei, 13-21, 14-21. The quarterfinal matches will be played on Friday. On the other side, PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth are not playing in the tournament.
Earlier, HS Prannoy defeated Firman Abdul Kholik by 23-21, 21-18to enter into pre quarters while Sourabh, seeded 7th, posted a 21-16, 21-16 win over Indonesia's Henrikho Kho Wibowo. 16th seeded Siril Verma beat another Indonesian Saputra Vicky Angga 21-14, 21-16 to advance to the next round.
