Centre proposed 14 new AIIMS hospitals in the country; 73 existing medical institutions being upgraded

New Delhi, August 4: All India Institute of Medical Science in New Delhi is the one of the profound medical institutions in the country. And when we hear AIIMS, we only think about the one in Delhi. Well, good news awaits you on this; Centre has proposed to set up 14 new AIIMS hospitals in the country. The additional 14 new AIIMS will be under the various phases of ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’ in different parts of the country.
Replying to supplementaries on AIIMS and related healthcare system in India, Health Minister JP Nadda said government is working on enhancing the capacity of national capital's medical institutes, which receive a large number of patients from across the country.
Nadda also added that an additional 1,563 new beds will be added in the existing capacity of AIIMS at Delhi and 73 existing medical institutions are being upgraded by setting up of super specialty blocks, trauma centres in the country. Under the national programme for prevention and control of cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases and strokes, the Health Minister said Centre to support the establishment of 20 state cancer institutes and 50 tertiary care cancer centres in different parts of the country.
He said AIIMS institutes in Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur and Raipur have been almost operational and a large number of patients these institutions receive not only from states but also from neighbouring regions. Responding to a question on eradication of measles, Nadda informed the House that the disease was never eradicated fully from the country and measles cases have continued to be reported from various parts of the country.
