New Delhi, August 5: The Centre has decided to deploy special teams of security personnel to take down top Maoist leaders. The plan of forming dedicated team was adopted after a similar move to target top militants in Jammu and Kashmir showed positive results.
The Home Minister was speaking at a meeting yesterday to review the status of development projects and security-related issues in Left-Wing Extremism affected states. Further, it has also given a nod to launch offensive operations in the tri-junction of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to neutralize the Red rebels.
A Home Ministry statement said, different development projects, including road requirement plan, and those concerning air connectivity, power, education, health and banking were reviewed at the meeting.
The Home Minister asked to expedite the remaining roads at the earliest. Regarding electrification it was informed that the remaining 717 villages in LWE affected areas will be covered under intense electrification scheme shortly. Eight solar parks are also planned for LWE affected areas for which land acquisition is under progress.
During the meeting, it was also informed that significant improvement has been made in filling up the vacancies in the security forces. The opening of new bank branches and ATMs in 35 most LWE affected districts was also reviewed.
