Government appoints Dr. Rajiv Kumar as the new Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog

New Delhi, Aug 6: Veteran economist Dr. Rajiv Kumar will be the next Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog. He is currently working as the senior fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, a non-governmental think tank on public policy. Along with this government also appointed Dr. Vinod Paul, a pediatrician at AIIMS, as a member of the Aayog. On August 1, Arvind Panagariya resigned from his post of vice chairman.

Dr. Rajiv Kumar holds a DPhil in economics from Oxford and a Ph.D. from Lucknow University. He is the founding director of Pahle India Foundation, a non-profit financial, economic and political research think-tank. He is also associated with Pune based Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. Earlier, he was Secretary General of the FICCI and had also served as Director and Chief Executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations. He was a member of the National Security Advisory Board between 2006 and 2008.

Dr. Rajiv Kumar was associated various international agencies such as Asian Development Bank, Manila, for almost a decade, and has also held government positions such as Economic Advisor in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Senior Consultant at the Bureau of Costs and Prices.
