Patna, August 8: Bihar battled with the low green cover area in past years. To solve the issue Bihar Government launched Hariyali Mission in 2011 for a greener state. Bihar’s green cover fell to 9% from 17% when the state was divided. Bihar CM has targeted to regain the green cover area by the end of this year targeting 15%.
"After a series of discussions at various levels, we decided to increase the green coverage by planting saplings. At the time of launching the Hariyali Mission, the state government had set a target of planting 24 crore saplings in the state. Today, we have almost achieved the target," Bihar CM said.
In next 5 years, the state aims to expand the green coverage further. The target will be aimed 17%. Then it will reach the amount of forest area of undivided Bihar.
