Coming back to mainstream society; 2 top Maoist leaders surrendered in Bengal

Kolkata, August 9: Since last 4-5 years top level Maoists are showing a tendency of coming back to mainstream society. A bunch of rebels have surrendered to the local administration. Indicating a good sign, members of a Maoist squad from Purulia district of West Bengal surrendered before the police on Tuesday. Both of the surrendered Maoists, Hajari Hembram alias Bijoy and Rani Munda alias Pooja were known as top level rebel leaders.

The duo surrendered in at the at the SP office of Purulia district. They have also surrendered their rifles. Against Hajari, at least 8 cases were registered. Though they were a member of Dalma squad but were highly active in Jharkhand and Odisha region. Though Dalma squad operates in the East Singhbhum region of Jharkhand, most of its members are from Bengal.

According to a local report, more than 220 Maoist have surrendered under the new West Bengal government. Hajari, a resident from Purulia Balarampur, joined Maoist squad in 2006. Rani joined the squad in 2015.

SP (Purulia) Joy Biswas told local media that they would help rehabilitation for them as both of them want to come back to mainstream life. The SP hopes that other Maoists also would come back to a healthy life.
