Mumbai, August 9: Mumbai got immersed in the ‘Sea of Marathas’ when Maratha Community- Maratha Kranti Morcha steadily kicked off today on the streets of Mumbai. With Lakhs of people attending this silent protest has affected the traffic due to Maratha Kranti Morcha.
Schools were shut down whereas the Maratha Kranti Morcha rally began from the BMC’s Jijamata Udyan and will finish at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai. Not only streets but the social media platforms have been flooded with the trending # MarathaKrantiMorcha. These silent protests are organised to demand reservation in jobs and educational institutions and punishment for culprits in the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Kopardi.
This Maratha Kranti Morcha rally has been organised by the Sakal Maratha Samaj, an umbrella organisation of several Maratha groups. Along with people, Shiv Sena MLAs were protesting outside Maharashtra Assembly demanding reservation for Maratha community.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to use the Bombay Gymkhana ground adjacent to the Azad Maidan, to handle a large number of people participated in Maratha Kranti Morcha rally, an official said.
Most of the protesters have come from Mumbai’s satellite cities of Navi Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Nashik, according to reports. While maximum participation is also anticipated from Ahmednagar district, Vidarbha region.
The delegation of Maratha Morcha along with Vinayak Mete, Shiv Sangram party leaders have arrived at Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai. Further, they will meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
