Colombo, September 1: Skipper Virat Kohli made an emotional speech while presenting MS Dhoni a specially designed silver bat on completing 300 ODIs on Thursday. "What do I say. 90 percent of us started our career under you. It is an honour to give this memento to you. And you will always remain our captain," Kohli said.

Dhoni is the sixth Indian to get to 300 ODIs and others are Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammed Azharuddin, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh.

This coming season gives us an opportunity to define roles for players and give them time to execute it so that for the World Cup, we know exactly what one player needs to do in certain situations," Kohli said ahead of the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Thursday.

"And it helps someone like MS also because he doesn't play Test cricket anymore. This long streak of matches will help him be in touch with the international games, find some momentum and stick to it," Kohli added.

Dhoni, who hit an unbeaten 49 off 42 in India's 375 for five in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka, was felicitated on the ground in the presence of the entire Indian team.

Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to congratulate MS Dhoni, who's set to play his 300th ODI match when India clashes with Sri Lanka yesterday in Colombo. Sachin tweeted, "Wearing the Indian ODI cap for the 300th time is definitely a special achievement! Hope you have a great game today, @msdhoni!" Dhoni could also become the wicket-keeper with highest number of stumpings (100).
