New Delhi, September 10: As Myanmar is facing a difficult time over the situation in Rakhine state India has expressed deep concern about this situation. The violent upsurge in Myanmar’s poorest state started from a militant’s attack on security forces of Myanmar. Thousands of Rohingya Muslims, as well as Buddhist families from the region, are fleeing to seek safety. In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs said India would help Myanmar government for Rakhine State Development Programme.
“We had earlier strongly condemned the terrorist attacks on Myanmar security forces in Rakhine State. The two countries have since affirmed their shared determination to combat terrorism and not allow its justification under any pretext,” the statement read.
Whereas Myanmar being a new democracy is facing a problem which dates back to colonial rule, the government is sometimes being overly criticized. The state counselor of the country Aung San Suu Kyi mentioned that they don’t have enough resource. Hence in such situation, India has been supportive to the country’s authority. Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin also said blaming Myanmar government for the violence would only worsen the situation.
