Moscow, September 11: When Russia is seeking to gain international support for its activities in Syria, it may get Saudi Arabia’s support to establish de-escalation zone. Along with Russia, Saudi Arabia also sees de-escalation zone as an important step for peace in the war torn country. The Saudi king and Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov met in Saudi Arabia.

In the meet, as Saudi’s local media said, the two leaders discussed the war in Syria and an Arab diplomatic crisis with Qatar. Saudi wants Russia to counter the rising power of Iran. Though Israel wanted the same thing Russia did not make any positive comment on this issue.

Russia is though mainly focusing on setting up of fourth de-escalation zone in Syria.“The next meeting in Astana will happen next week, and I hope the agreements on the parameters of the fourth zone in Idlib will be formalized there,” Lavrov said.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir expressed support for Russia’s peace efforts in Syria. He said the two countries have a common goal in ultimately resolving the conflict through peace talks in Geneva.
