Japan’s 1st political dialogue with Arab league focusing on economic and energy matters

Cairo, September 12: Aiming to promote cooperation for stability and prosperity in the Middle East region, first Ministerial Meeting for Arab-Japanese Political Dialogue was held in Cairo on Monday. Japanese Foreign minister Taro Kono met his counterpart from UAE Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash. This visit mainly focuses on economic and energy matters dealing with the middle east. For the first time, Japan and the Arab League pasting held a political dialogue at a ministerial level. The league groups 21 Middle Eastern and African nations as well as the Palestinian territory.

Though the visit was supposed to focus on economic ties, Japanese Foreign Minister is looking for ties on a wider range of topics and enhance Japan's diplomatic profile in the region.He urged Middle Eastern nations not to accept migrant workers from North Korea to prevent the country from obtaining funding for its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
The Japanese Foreign Minister during his talks with King Salman sought the support of the Kingdom on the issue of North Korea. He also discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as it was expected that he would discuss Middle East conflicts along with North Korea issue. Taro Kono is on a visit to Middle Eastern Countries.

“Namely, given that some countries in the Middle East have close ties to North Korea and accept many North Korea workers, I will describe Japan’s position in relation to the current circumstances, and request some kind of response to the situation whereby these North Korean workers are sending foreign currency to North Korea. In addition, I also intend to engage in thorough exchanges of views regarding the situation in the Middle East,” Japanese Foreign Minister said in an earlier meeting.
