Again Darjeeling faces intense agitation from GJM supporters leading to clash with police

Darjeeling, September 15: The demand for different statehood of Gorkhas seems to an unsolved crisis in Bengal. Every time Darjeeling tries to go back to normalcy, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha makes it to crawl back to unrest. On Friday shops and some business, establishments were open in early hours. Even some schools were open in early hours. GJM chief Bimal Gurung already warned to prevent any attempt to lift the bandh. Following that warning, the Gurung supports attacked a school bus and rained stone on police forces, as per local news report.

The ongoing strike in Darjeeling is longest one of a kind reaching 93 days. Hence administrations, a part of GJM leaders were trying to encourage people to bring back normalcy in the hill. Schools started to open, students started returning, and some professors were brought back to Darjeeling Government College.

Gurung, who is afraid of losing dominance in the hill, again prompted violence in the hill. To control the situation, police had to fire tear gas shells and wielded sticks. Even the agitators attacked a school bus. Fortunately, no one got wounded. 16 GJM supporters have been arrested.
