Lucknow, September 15: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the country is fully geared to combat any untoward situation. In response to questions on the Doklam stand-off and repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan, she said that defence forces are monitoring every situation very closely.

Talking to media persons at Varanasi, she assured the citizens that the NDA government guaranteed their security. She said that following recent diplomatic developments between India and China and as part of the disengagement of border personnel, the Chinese troops have left the disputed area of Doklam along with bulldozers and removed the tents which they had pitched.

"The External Affairs Ministry has already given a statement regarding it so I would not like to add anything to it," she added.

While the over two-month standoff at Doklam was resolved on August 28 through disengagement of soldiers from both sides, the pass through which many Indian pilgrims go to Kailash Mansarovar in China’s Tibet remained shut.

Defence Minister has said, commenting on repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan, she said the armed forces were fully alert and prepared to deal with any situation.

Earlier, on September 1, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of the Border Security Force, Kamaljit Singh, sustained bullet injuries due to enemy fire from across the LoC while he was deployed at a forward post in Krishna Ghati Sector in Poonch. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Till August 1, there were 285 such violations by the Pakistan Army, while in 2016, it 228 for the entire year, according to the Army figures.
