Mumbai, September 26: Finally the bill gets clear which allows the shops to stay open 24X7. State government cleared a law that allows shops to stay open round the clock. With this move, soon the shops in Maharashtra, atleast in big cities, for now, can remain open round the clock. The cities like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune and other cities are included in the plan.
At present, shops across Maharashtra have to be shut by 10 pm while restaurants have to take their last orders till midnight. According to state government sources here, a notification allowing shops and establishments to stay open round the clock will soon be served out.
“Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has already given his assent to the bill passed by the state assembly and the notification will be issued before Diwali,” a senior state government official said.
The notification will primarily seek to regulate the number of hours put in by employees at shops and establishments apart from ensuring that they are given the mandatory weekly off.
Apart from shops, malls, chemists, multiplexes businesses like banks and those run by professionals like architects, engineers and tax consultants will be allowed to operate round-the-clock.
