London, 6 September: Oxford and Cambridge have grabbed the top slots in the musical chairs of the international university league table, despite fears that British higher education is facing disruption over funding and student tuition fees.
The latest rankings by Times Higher Education (THE) put Oxford on top for the second year in a row and rival Cambridge in second, displacing the California Institute of Technology.
Phil Baty, Editorial Director of THE global rankings, said UK higher education is facing a politica,l pressure but despite of all the troubles, the best universities are only in Britain. Overall, the rankings show Oxford in first place, followed by Cambridge and then the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), which drops one place to joint third with Stanford University, also in the United States.
Baty also added, “The UK higher education system is facing intense political pressure, with questions over the value for money provided by £9,250 tuition fees in England, our continued attractiveness to international students, the flow of research funding and academic talent post-Brexit, and even levels of vice-chancellors' pay.”
The data also reveals that UK universities are consistently creating ground-breaking new research which is driving innovation, they are constantly attracting academic talent and international students even after post-Brexit.
