Jharkhand to celebrate ‘Khadi Mela’ at unimaginable discounted rates

Ranchi, 7 September: Khadi or Khaddar means cotton which is usually handspun. Over the years, Khadi has evolved as a fashion wear. PM Narendra Modi also gave out the slogan “Khadi for nation, Khadi for Fashion”. Since then, the state of Jharkhand has trying to promote Khadi and village industries in the state. The rural artisans hand weave the Khadi fabric in the state, which is one of the specialties. To elevate it even more, Jharkhand State Khadi Board will be organizing an 8 day Khadi Mela from September 17-24.
The ground breaking ceremony for the upcoming mela was held at the venue on September 5 in presence of Sanjay Seth, Chairman of Jharkhand State Khadi Board along with the his Board members.
The exhibition-cum-sale of khadi and village industries products will see the participation of around 300 stalls put up by artisans, craftsmen, khadi institutions and Rural Employment Generation Programme units. Artists from different parts of the country will participate.
Items like khadi, wood crafts, terracotta, stone crafts, handlooms, jewellery, bamboo craft, metal craft, jute and tribal paintings among other items which will be on display for sale, said Sanjay Seth.
The products will be available at discount of 25 to 30%. The entry ticket for the mela will be Rs 10. However, entry for students coming with uniform will be free.
