Victoria, September 7: Indian squash players get off to a flying start as Vikram Malhotra, Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal advanced to the quarterfinals of the HKFC International squash event which is being held in Hong Kong.
Notably, Vikram Malhotra stunned world No. 20 Zahed Mohamed of Egypt by 13-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8 in a men's singles match that lasted for 46 minutes to storm into the quarterfinal. However, it was a hard fought win for Vikram but kept himself focused in the match.
The Indian dominated the first two sets and took an easy lead, but Zahed Mohamed did a strong comeback shortly and clinched the third set by 11-6. The 62nd-ranked Malhotra scored points at every interval and easily won the match. Another Indian, Mahesh Mangaonkar, lost to the third seed, Omar Mossad of Egypt 3-11, 7-11, 11-9, 6-11 in the men's singles.
On the other side, in the women's Singles, India's leading players, Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal also stormed into quarterfinals after registering a comfortable win over their respected opponents in their first round matches. Chinappa beat local qualifier Li Sum Yin 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 while Pallikal defeated Tang Yan Yi, another qualifier from Hong Kong, 11-6, 11-4,
