Chandrababu Naidu offers prayer to River Godavari, says water is indispensable to develop the state

Rajahmundry, Sept 8: Underscoring the importance of preservation of rivers and other water resources Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that rivers are like a life line for human civilization. Addressing the gathering after offering the Jala Harathi to River Godavari at Pushkar Ghat Naidu asserted that only because of river Godavari the soil in the Godavari districts has become fertile helping cultivation of crops and bringing prosperity to the people. He also recalled the contribution of Sir Arthur Cotton who constructed a barrage at Dowleswaram.

 

Informing about the various initiative of sustainable irrigation by state government the TDP chief said that with the whopping cost of 13,000 crores around 28 irrigation related projects will be completed by March 2018. He also stated that 40 rivers, 40,000 tanks, and 50,000 check dams have prevented the state from drought.

Naidu mentioned that through Pattiseema project, nearly 105 tmc ft of Godavari water was diverted to Krishna delta which paid off with the bumper crops. He further added that Krishna delta could have faced serious problems if there was no diversion of Godavari water. As reported by Deccan Chronicles Sharing his personal experience Chandra Babu said, I'm privileged to have conducted Godavari Pushkaralu two times as a chief minister. First time in 2003 and again in 2015,"

Commenting on the stand of previous Congress government at the center Naidu said that Congress government included Polavaram project in the state bifurcation act but not tagged the merging of seven mandals of Telangana into Andhra Pradesh for the completion of Polavaram project. He further underlined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first Cabinet meeting issued an ordinance and merged the seven mandals in Andhra Pradesh for completion of Polavaram project.
