New Delhi, September 8: The increasing pollution worldwide is getting escalated by overuse of cars with petrol and diesel fuel. Hence to tackle the menace of politics, the government will soon bring in a policy on electric vehicles. For innovation in electric car vehicles, he asked carmakers to carry out research.

Electric powertrains and engines running on other fuel variants such as ethanol and biofuels can work as a substitute of petrol and diesel vehicles. The Government is going to take the makers of petrol/diesel engine vehicles to the task.

"We should move towards alternative fuel... I am going to do this, whether you like it or not. And I am not going to ask you. I will bulldoze it. For pollution, for imports, my ideas are crystal clear... The government has a crystal-clear policy to reduce imports and curb pollution," Gadkari said.

The overuse of cars is even now a problem in smaller towns. The government has planned for an innovative platform or app like Ola, Uber which would facilitate the use of two-wheelers as a taxi. Gadkari advised car industry to use a part of its profit for "cost-effective import substitutes and pollution-free technologies".
