Mumbai, January 22: Ancient Indian medical systems have to be used by the doctors in order to cure diseases. Going back to the roots and using Ayurveda for treatment of the patients will enable them to recover easily and early. The people suffering from sickness should be given an early screening so as to let them know about the sickness and the necessary treatment they will go through in this process.

While addressing the Graduation Ceremony at Tata Memorial Centre, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu asked the medical researchers to come up with path breaking progresses in the prevention and treatment of cancer. Governor of Maharashtra Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The President urged the researchers to explore ancient Indian medical systems like ayurveda for alternative solutions. He also added that there should be cost effective ways to cure diseases like Cancer. Cancer is a major public health concern in India and has become one of the 10 leading causes of deaths. It is one of the dreaded diseases and also a very costly disease in terms of treatment. A better understanding of the causes and early detection could help reduce the disease burden in our country.

The people need to go back to roots, especially the way we live and the way we think. Awareness must be created, particularly, among youngsters, on the need to lead healthy lifestyles and avoid consumption of junk food. Yoga training should be imparted to students as part of ensuring healthy lifestyles. It is a holistic approach to healthy living and there is evidence that it enhances the well-being and quality of life.

Doctors and students in the medical profession should create awareness on the need to observe personal hygiene and maintain sanitation. Lack of personal hygiene causes infections like HPV, which in turn has the potential to cause cancer of the cervix. In terms of the treatment of cancer patients, there is a need to control more number of soothing care centres or hospitals. Such centres are needed to provide relief from pain and emotional distress to suffering patients.
