Lucknow, January 31: In connection with the clashes that broke out in UP's Kasganj, Police has arrested the key accused of 23-year-old Abhishek Gupta alias Chandan on Wednesday.
District magistrate of Kasganj, RP Singh, also confirmed Saleem’s arrest to the press.
Saleem was absconding after the incident. Police teams recovered a pistol and some crude explosives from his residence during a raid on Saturday night. The FIR in the case had been lodged on a complaint by Gupta’s father at Kotwali Police station of Kasganj.
Meanwhile, The Uttar Pradesh government has sent a detailed report to the Home Ministry on the Kasganj violence. Earlier, the Centre has sought a report from the state government in connection with the violence.
The Home Ministry has asked the state government to send a comprehensive report about the group clashes and the steps taken to restore peace in Kasganj and its adjoining areas. The state government has also been asked to provide details about the steps taken to punish those involved in the violence.
The incident took place on Republic Day when a "Tiranga Yatra" in the form of a bike rally was taken out by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and some other Hindu organisations in the town. As they were passing through the Hulka locality a Muslim majority area some people pelted stones on the bikers and Chandan was shot dead.
