New Delhi, October 16: Dedication, determination and the zeal to achieve a glowing medal for the country made these aspiring Asia Para athletes clinch medals for India. Felicitating the talents, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the efforts taken by the athletes and remarked that their mental strength was a key factor in their success.

 

Felicitating the medal winners of the 2018 Asian Para Games, PM Modi complimented the athletes for their contribution in raising India's profile on the global stage. The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for the coaches of the medal winners.

PM Modi urged the athletes to keep up their spirit of optimism, and persevere to achieve even greater heights.

 

India has performed exceptionally well in the Asian Para Games gifting India a total of 72 medals, being the highest of all seasons. Winning a total of 72 medals in the competition which included 15 gold, 24 silver and 33 bronze, India raised on the 9th position out of 33 countries. This tally of 72 medals is our best ever haul in the history of the competition.

This was India’s best-ever performance at the Asian Para Games, as in the last edition at Incheon it had won 33 medals including 3 gold, 14 silver, 16 bronze medals. India won around half of its medals in Para-athletics with the tally reading 36 medals including 7 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze. While the sporting categories of Badminton and chess contributed nine medals each to India’s medal tally, para-swimming contributed eight medals.
