Women empowerment policies of govt reflect Mavshi Kelkar’s vision: EAM Sushma Swaraj

Nagpur, Nov 28: Calling herself a proud ‘Sevika’ of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said that Narendra Modi-led BJP government is fulfilling the dream of late Laxmibai aka Mavshi Kelkar, founder of the Rashtra Sevika Samiti.

The Union Minister was in the orange city to attend the programme organized on the 40th death anniversary of the Samiti founder. On this occasion, the Union Minister unveiled the Memorial 'Smriti Shilp' of Lakshmibai Kelkar.

Revisiting the teachings of Mavshi Kelkar, Swaraj stated that women empowerment policies and programmes initiated by this government reflect the vision of the legendary leader.

“Lakshmibai Kelkar was a visionary leader and now ideas envisioned by the great lady are being implemented by the present government”, said Swaraj.

Lauding the efforts central government, the External Affairs Minister opined that woman empowerment programmes etched by Prime Minister Modi are inspired from the very Indian ethos and values and not from the west.

Talking about the social impact of schemes like ‘Beti Bacho, Beti Padao’, ‘Ujjawala Yojana’ and other majors of women empowerment by the central government, the senior BJP leader indicated that the government has brought a qualitative change in the lives of ordinary women.

Expressing concern over current social order she observed that rise in the number of atrocities against women is a matter of great concern. She further added that society should shun the stereotypical approach towards women.

On her twitter diplomacy, the Union Minister said that the sheer feeling of compassion towards fellow citizens drives her to listen to the plight of Indian nations staying abroad. “we have brought back 2,03,666 NRIs who faced troubles abroad,” the minister informed.

Expressing satisfaction over India’s foreign policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sushma Swaraj underlined that “Nation First” is the soul of our foreign policy due to which India has been able to manage co-ordinal relationship with countries like America and Russia, UAE and Iran and Israel and Palestine despite their bad relationship with each other.

On this occasion, Rashtra Sevika Samiti Chief Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, Dr. Gauri Sapre and Smita Kelkar and other office bearers of Shree Shaktipeeth were present.

During her short visit, the External Affairs Minister showered praises on the various activities initiated by the women self-help group of Shree Shaktipeeth. Earlier, Swaraj paid a visit to Ahilya Mandir and met former Pramukah Sanchalika Pramilatai Medhe.
