Indonesian rescuers battled heavy rains today in a desperate search for survivors after the volcano-triggered tsunami that killed at least 281.

On Sunday, a powerful tsunami hit Indonesia, known for its thousands of islands stretching from the Andaman Sea to the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, killing at least 281 people and injuring thousands.

In a tweet, Prime Minister #NarendraModi says, India is ready to assist its maritime neighbour and friend in relief work.

"Saddened by the loss of lives and destruction in Indonesia caused by the Tsunami after the eruption of a volcano. Condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured an early recovery. India is ready to assist our maritime neighbour and friend in relief work." Tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
