UK Foreign secretary to visit Rohingya refugee camps ahead of his Myanmar visit

Dhaka, February 10: British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson ahead of his Myanmar visit. The diplomat who has arrived in Dhaka is on his maiden Bangladesh visit. He also urged Myanmar to find a safe and dignified way for Rohingya Muslims to return.

“The plight of the Rohingya and the suffering they have had to endure is one of the most shocking humanitarian disasters of our time,” Johnson said as per an official statement. He will be talking to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and other regional leaders about how they can work together to resolve this crisis. UN has described Rohingyas as the world's most persecuted people. More than, 650,000 refugees, mostly children and women, have fled Myanmar since late August when the violence broke down.

The UK has also extended £59 million assistance during the crisis. UK like many other countries called for safe and voluntary return of Rohingyas to Myanmar after it signed a repatriation deal with Bangladesh. UK Foreign Secertary will meet Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
