Russian passenger jet crashes near Moscow killing 71 people on board

Moscow, February 12: A Russian passenger jet, operated by Russia’s Saratov Airlines, has crashed killing 71 people on board including 65 passengers and 6 crew members. Radio contact with the passenger plane of the Saratov Airlines was lost several minutes after the takeoff from Moscow’s Domodedovo airport.

"The An-148 passenger plane of the Saratov Airlines [flight 730 from Moscow to Orsk] took off from the Domodedovo airport at 14:21 Moscow time. According to preliminary data, there were 65 passengers and six crew members aboard the plane. Radio contact with the plane was lost several minutes after the takeoff and the plane went out of the radars. In happened in Moscow region’s Ramensky district," Russian Air Agency said as quoted by TASS.

Later, the debris was spotted in the village located in the countryside not far away from Moscow. The crash might have been caused by weather conditions, human error or technical failure but the exact cause is now not found till the time. But a local newspaper reported, there were no extreme weather conditions in the Moscow region at that time.

Russian authority has opened a probe, main part of the search operation at the crash site of near Moscow may be completed in seven days. The operation will take time because of the big area of the scattered wreckage fragments, heavy snow and complicated ground profile.
