Nigeria starts mass trial against hundreds of Boko Haram suspects

Abuja, February 13: In order to prevent Islamic insurgents, Nigerian federal government has commenced a fresh trial of hundreds of suspected Boko Haram insurgents. Hundreds of people suspected of links to Boko Haram stood trial in a detention center in central Nigeria on Monday.

"Unlike the first phase which was restricted, this phase is opened with some civil society groups, including human rights organizations and journalists invited to witness the proceedings," the justice ministry said in a statement.

As per the statement, currently, over 2000 suspects of the insurgent faction are detained at the military detention facility in Kainji, New Bussa, Niger state.
