Andhra Pradesh to team up with Florida University for new agriculture technology

Amaravati, February 22: In a bid to boost the agriculture and horticulture sector in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has cleared the proposal of setting an Institute of Sustainable Agriculture for the transferring of technologies with, University of Florida.

On Wednesday, Dr. Jack Payne, Senior Vice President, the University of Florida called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu at state Secretariat and expressed willingness to work with the coastal state. Payne mentioned that the University of Florida is ready to share post-harvest technologies and gene technologies in order to enhance the development of the coastline and aquaculture.

Welcoming the initiative of Florida varsity, the Chief Minister assured that state government would provide all support and eco-system for the easy roll out of the proposed platform. He further added that a Special Task Force will be formed which will review and coordinate with officials from the University of Florida.

Briefing about the ongoing collaborations in the field of agriculture, Babu pointed that state government has already teamed up with international institutions like the University of Iowa and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He stated that platform like ‘Internet of Things’ has been used to take technology to the grassroots level.
