New Delhi, February 7: Focusing on making the country use the renewable resources, the officials have come up with the idea of incorporating solar energy in the cities. Around 60 cities have been selected under the ‘Development of Solar Cities’ including 13 pilot and five model cities, as part of the 12th five-year plan period.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy head RK Singh, confirmed that the master plans of 49 solar cities have been prepared. The stakeholders committees have been constituted in 21 cities, and solar city cells have been created in 37 solar cities. The master plan for almost 49 cities has already been prepared.
Singh informed that solar PV projects with an aggregate capacity of nearly 8.1 MW, and solar water heating systems with the total size of 7,894 square meter collector area, had been sanctioned under the program. While Rs. 101.64 crore has been sanctioned, Rs. 25.92 crore has been released under scheme “Development of Solar Cities” so far. Further, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has accorded sanction for the preparation of a master plan for ‘Development of 52 Green Campus’, also under the five-year plan period.
The authorities also provide Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of up to 5 lakhs for preparing a master plan for development of the green campus in the educational institutions, office complexes, residential, commercial complexes, and others. An amount of Rs.2.59 crore has been sanctioned and an amount of Rs.1.02 crore has been released up to 31st January, 2018 for this purpose.
