Mid-day meals in Chhattisgarh schools even during summer holidays

Raipur, March 21: In a commendable move, Chhattisgarh government has planning to provide midday meal in 28 thousand 990 schools of drought-affected 96 tehsils of state during summer vacation.

Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Ajay Singh chaired a meeting of state-level monitoring cum execution committee constituted for monitoring of Midday Meal Scheme implementation in primary and middle schools of state. 

In the meeting, annual action plan of 647 crore 81 lakh 44 thousand for fiscal year 2018-19 was approved. This proposal would be sent to Government of India. Also, school Education Department is implementing Mukhyamantri Amrit Yojana in two districts- Kabeerdham and Bastar district.

Under the scheme, once a week flavoured soya milk is distributed to children. The proposal to expand this scheme to other districts of the state was also discussed.

The state has total 44 thousand 832 primary and middle schools, where midday meals are being served, benefitting more than 31 lakh students of state. This includes 42 thousand 404 schools are being conducted by women self-help group, 38 schools by Gram Panchayats, 675 schools by social welfare organizations, 1152 by head masters and 563 by Matra Samiti.
