Enlightening future generation, India Post releases special cover as a tribute to Stephen Hawking

Mumbai, March 21: As a tribute to the great scientist Stephen Hawking, the Department of India Post inaugurated a commemorative stamp cover. The idea of issuing the cover is to enlighten the future generation about the great work of the world famous scientist.

Chief Post Master General of Maharashtra and Goa Circle H C Agrawal and Director of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Dr Sandip Trivedi jointly issued the special cover at an event held in the GPO Mumbai.

Agrawal said that the postal department is paying tribute to the legendary scientist by releasing the special cover in all its 22 Circles. The Postal Department was distinguishing the contributions of great people to society by releasing their stamps and covers. The main idea being to make the great people part of history as the younger generation will learn more about them and shape themselves in a progressive manner.

 

Educating and shaping the coming up generation with the values and ideas of the APJ Abdul Kalam, Stephen Hawking will encourage them to learn new ideas and make a progressive change in the nation. The department had conducted Deendayal Sparsh Yogana’s competitions to promote philately among schoolchildren. As many as 1114 school children took part in the competitions and 40 were short-listed for the annual scholarships of Rs6, 000. Exhorting students to pursue the hobby of philately as it helps them think innovatively will bring new ideas and creativity among them.

 

Hawking died at the age of 76 on March 14 in his home in Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
