And the ‘Team Champion’ is India: A royal win at 8th South Asian Judo Championship

Lalitpur, April 24: And India wins! India royally clinches the title of Team Champion at 8th South Asian Judo Championship held in Lalitpur, Nepal. India royally ended their campaign in the tournament with a total of 12 Gold medals and 3 Bronze medals. Congratulations! 

Keeping the unbeaten streak Indian women whitewashed the championship by beating host Nepal by 5-0 in the final of team events. Indian men also won the team championship. They defeated Pakistan by 3-2 in the final.

"The Asian Games are ahead of us which is to be held in Indonesia, we are now giving all our strength for it. We will be practising hard and well for it," said Gold-medallist Anita Chanu.

In the event which was held at Army Physical Training Center, Lagankhel, Nepal stood second with two Gold medals, seven Silver and 13 Bronze medals in total.

Pakistan finished at the third spot with two Gold, four Silver and three Bronze medals.

While Sri Lanka bagged three Silver and six Bronze, Bangladesh took away two Silver and two Bronze. Bhutan, on the other hand, settled for just one Bronze medal this year.

A total of 102 players from six nations have contested in the three-day event.

The next series of the event will be held in Bangladesh. The South Asian Judo Federation's meeting fixed Bangladesh as host nation for the 2020 championship.
