At least 14,300 cases settled during National Lok Adalat held across JK

Srinagar, April 24: As many as 14300 cases were settled during the National Lok Adalat held across the valley at district and tehsil levels and in both the wings of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Notably, the National Lok Adalat was held at Jammu and Kashmir in a bid to ensure speedy justice delivery and reduce pendency of cases.

 

According to a statement of Member Secretary of the State Legal Services Authority, RN Wattal, at least 14300 cases were disposed of during the National Lok Adalat. “An amount of 67 crore rupees was settled in bank recovery suits in the state,” he added.

The official further stated that an amount of 5 crores 25 lakh rupees was awarded as compensation in Motor Accident Claims Tribunals cases. The Lok Adalats organized by J&K High Court Legal Services Committee was held under the patronage of Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court and patron-in-chief of, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar.

Importantly, during Lok Adalat, various criminal compound matters including cases under NI Act, MACT matrimonial, bank matters, civil and cases pertaining to public utilities, labour disputes and pre-litigation were taken up for amicable settlement. Earlier this year, a total of 11912 cases were settled and over Rs 70 crore were recovered from defaulters during Lok Adalats held across Jammu and Kashmir.
